I’m back with yet another Starbucks frappe post! Keeping to the idea of expanding my Starbucks palate, I went for the caramel frappe. Yes, it isn’t the most unusual frappe at Starbucks, however, I wanted to try something new. It’s also the very first item on the in-store frappe menu, therefore catching my attention first. Plus, I was thinking of caramel, especially after the popcorn caramel ice cream at McDonald’s (read the post here!).
While waiting for my frappe, I was imagining the flavors that I would taste. The flavors were either going to be a sugary sweet caramel, or a blend of caramel and milk – or so I thought.
I was pleasantly surprised to taste a hint of coffee under the whipped cream that’s drizzled with a sweet caramel sauce. When I mixed it all together (i.e. the whipped cream and coffee frappe parts), it tasted like a caramel-flavored coffee. Bitterness from the coffee balanced out the caramel’s sweetness, and vice versa.
What I liked about this frappe is that it isn’t too sweet, or at least it isn’t as sweet as what I’d imagined it to be. All in all, it’s a relatively simple frappe that brought joy to me on a hot day and gave me an energy boost to charge on with my afternoon.
